Skype for Android finally released

05Oct10

Until now, Skype has been absent from Android for most people.  Skype made exclusive deals with some networks, such as Three in the UK, in order to bundle their software on certain phones.  This was probably for business reasons as it’s a guaranteed revenue scheme.  There was also a beta app for a while that simply dialled a local rate number, but that disappeared from the Market.

Today, Skype have announced Skype for Android which should be available in the Market.
You can make free Skype to Skype calls over WiFi or mobile data connections and Skype-out calls for low rates.  You can also receive Skype-in calls.
