New m.youtube.com for iPhone and Android

08Jul10

Engadget have pointed to two videos, one for Leanback, youtube’s new a television friendly interface, the other for the new mobile version of youtube.

Looks like m.youtube.com hasn’t updated for me yet but this is still rolling out.  The new interface is meant to give a better experience for touch enabled devices, I’ll post something when it’s available about the Android experience probably.

UPDATE: I got impatient for the rollout in the UK and changed the language location on mobile youtube to the US.  I was then greeted with the new interface.

My initial thoughts were that all this talk of it replacing the built in YouTube app on Android and iPhone was hyperbole.  It seems though that this is potentially better than the built in apps, the interface is slick and very quick indeed, it’s also a lot more inline with the full desktop version that these native apps.  I can highly recommend it, I’ve actually replaced my native Android YouTube app with a bookmark on you homescreen.
