Microsoft promise 3D TV without glasses.Had better deliver

12Jun10
Microsoft spend billions on R&D and yet don’t seem to produce much for it in the consumer space.
I’m sure that work on the Microsoft Surface went into their multitouch support for Windows but I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing that something more tangible came out of it (errr, like a giant multitouch coffee table).
Technology Review have an article on a new display technology by MS that promises 3D TV without glasses.
The secret is a new type of lens they are prototyping that can be combined with LCD displays and produce 3D images for two viewers, or different 2D images for up to 4 viewers.  Interestingly enough, it does this by tracking the viewers with a camera.  You can find more info here.
Update: There is actually a video demonstration
