Tip: Restoring Ubuntu 10.04 window buttons to the right hand side

30May10
For Ubuntu 10.04 “Lucid Lynx”, Canonical decided to move the windows buttons (minimise, maximise and close) from the right hand side to the left.  I can only imagine this is to ape Apple’s OS X.
Suffice it to say, I don’t like them on the left so here is how to move them back quickly.  You could open the configuration editor and root around in there but instead:
1) Press Alt+F2
2) Paste in the following
gconftool-2 –set /apps/metacity/general/button_layout –type string menu:minimize,maximize,close
Voila

  1. Ah a great tip for all those who just can’t handle change or hate Mac OS X! lol

This is a good one. I am sure that a lot of people will appreciate it.

  2. I’ve only just realised my RSS feeds are still the old ongoingissues. Looks like I have some reading to do!
